The NeighborSpace Activity Area

NeighborSpace Activity Area

Baltimore County's Urban Rural Demarcation Line (URDL), shown in red on the map, denotes the limit of County water and sewerage service lines. The rural area is beyond the URDL. It is still largely agricultural or forested. Agricultural and other land trusts in the rural parts of the County accept only large tracts of land. A land trust was needed to preserve and protect smaller parcels in the older, more heavily populated parts of the County, which are mostly between the URDL and the Baltimore City-Baltimore County border. NeighborSpace was established to be that land trust.

The older more heavily populated areas within the boundary marked by the URDL which merit conservation efforts are denoted in the map by horizontal yellow stripes. This area is called the Community Conservation area. Baltimore County has an office of Community Conservation, which is dedicated to preserving and improving the quality of life within the Community Conservation area.

Some areas within the URDL have been designated as Growth Areas. They are denoted in the map by diagonal blue stripes.

The most heavily commercial areas of Baltimore County, in which Employment opportunities are concentrated, are denoted in the map by vertical red stripes.

Baltimore County has made other very useful interactive maps (external link) available online. Street names and zoning can be determined from one set of these maps. Another set offers "tiles" (external link), each of which presents an explorsble aerial photo of a rectangle in a grid covering the entire County. Streets are named in these tiles. Use the "zoom in" tool to quickly get to the level of photos rather than magnifying grids only
