SUMMARY:Baltimore County seeks public input on Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan Survey-CLOSES 11/14/21
DESCRIPTION: The Baltimore County Department of Public Works and Transportation (DPWT) is requesting input from County residents to inform Baltimore County’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan. \nThe County has provided three ways for the public to offer feedback: \n\nA new online survey that asks residents to help the County identify streets or intersections where active transportation facility improvements are needed and identify current use of and experiences when using active transportation facilities\nResidents may also use an online interactive tool to map their ideas for bicycle and pedestrian improvements in Baltimore County.\nCommunity members may also provide written comment with ideas or questions. \n\n“Enhancing bicycling and walking in the region will contribute to the local economy\, promote active lifestyles\, and grow regional tourism\,” said Acting Director of Public Works and Transportation D’Andrea Walker. “We look forward to partnership for community members so we can continue our efforts to plan for the future of our County’s transportation infrastructure.” \nThe Baltimore County Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan will provide important updates to the County’s existing Eastern and Western Pedestrian and Bicycle Access Plans\, which were developed nearly 15 years ago. \nThe key elements of the County’s new master planning process include identifying the policy and physical barriers to complete streets and active transportation circulation\, analyzing and developing policy and physical alternatives\, and prioritizing improvements. \nThe public survey\, interactive map\, and public comment will be open for responses until November 14\, 2021. \nFollowing this community input\, Baltimore County will develop recommendations for the County Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan and will release a draft report in early 2022.

SUMMARY:Baltimore County Districts 5\, 6 & 7 Master Plan 2030 Kick Off Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Your voice matters and we want to hear from you! \nWe invite you to be a Master Plan visionary at one of our upcoming public forums. At the heart of the Baltimore County Master Plan 2030 is the ideal that local government should invest more —and more thoughtfully — in its people and infrastructure. Your input will guide the vision and strategies for the County over the next 10 years as we build a sustainable future. \nThe meetings will be virtual. Information for accessing the live meetings will be posted on the website at baltimorecountymd.gov/masterplan2030. We will be holding three meetings—focused on communities located in western\, northern\, and eastern parts of Baltimore County.  \nAlso\, we invite you to also visit the Master Plan website to stay informed about events and ways you can bring your ideas to the table about growth\, development\, conservation and the County’s future throughout this process. \nbaltimorecountymd.gov/masterplan2030 \nIf you “Join” the website\, this will allow you to receive updates and notices via email. \nWhile you’re there\, please take a few minutes to take our new four-question survey that is posted on the website. We can’t wait to hear your ideas and will discuss some of the input gathered through this survey at the kick-off meetings in May. \nWe look forward to working with you. \nSteve Lafferty\, Director of Planning \nAmy Trexler Mantay\, Deputy Director and Master Plan Coordinator

SUMMARY:Forever Maryland Webinar: Climate Change & Agriculture: What to Expect & What We Should Be Thinking About
DESCRIPTION:Elizabeth Marks\, United States Department of Agriculture\, Natural Resources Conservation Service (USDA NRCS) and Dr. Dennis J. Timlin\, United States Department of Agriculture\, Agricultural Research Service (USDA ARS)Climate Change & Agriculture: What to Expect & What We Should Be Thinking About \n \n \nElizabeth Marks \n\nElizabeth Marks serves as a biologist for the United States Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service (USDA NRCS) in the Hudson Valley (New York). A certified Holistic Management educator\, she works with landowners to improve soil health and biological diversity on their farm and forest. In 2020 she spent a year on a special assignment as the NRCS liaison to the USDA Northeast Climate Hub. Elizabeth received a bachelor’s degree in biology from Mount Holyoke College and attended King’s College London. She lives in Chatham\, NY in a net-zero\, energy efficient home she designed herself. \n \n \n \nDr. Dennis J. Timlin \n\nDr. Dennis J. Timlin is a Research Soil Scientist with the USDA-ARS Adaptive Cropping Systems Laboratory at the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center\, Beltsville\, MD.  He grew up on Long Island\, in NY and has lived and worked in Maryland since 1991.  He earned his B.A. Degree in Biology from the State University of NY at Buffalo\, NY in 1974 and his M.S. and Ph.D degrees in Soil Physics from Cornell University in 1987. He is a fellow of the American Society of Agronomy and the Soil Science Society of America. His program is directed toward quantifying the effects of environmental variables on crop growth and soil processes. Current research involves development of plant and soil simulation models for use in climate change and agricultural management assessment\, and in research. His interests are in how plants and their environment (soil\, temperature\, and carbon dioxide) interact and how to quantify that interaction in simulation models. His experimental research utilizes sunlit growth chambers to study carbon assimilation\, growth and development of plants. He has developed and worked on computer simulation models for corn\, soybean\, potato\, cotton\, and rye (as a cover crop). \nFree registration here.

SUMMARY:Baltimore County Districts 2 & 3 Master Plan 2030 Kick Off Meeting

SUMMARY:City Nature Challenge 2021
DESCRIPTION:http://citynaturechallenge.org/ \nhttp://www.aqua.org/baltimore-cnc  \n \nGet Nerdy with Nature\nCity Nature Challenge is an annual community science competition for cities across the globe to find and document the plants and wildlife found in urban areas. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic\, the 2021 challenge is all about collaboration\, not competition. It is an opportunity for participants to connect with other cities across the nation—and the globe—while exploring the nature found in and around their homes. \nThe 2021 challenge will take place in two parts: from April 30 to May 3\, 2021\, community scientists will observe wildlife and take photos of all the plants and animals they can find. From April 30 to May 9\, 2021\, the species documented will be identified. On May 10\, 2021\, the results will be announced!
