Do you love birding and want to support local conservation efforts? NeighborSpace is currently seeking experienced birders to help monitor bird activity in our protected green spaces throughout Baltimore County.
As a Volunteer Bird Monitor, you’ll play a key role in collecting data to help establish a baseline understanding of the bird species present in our parks and to track changes and migratory patterns over time.

What’s Involved?
Volunteer Bird Monitors will…
- Visit a designated NeighborSpace site once a month
- Complete and submit a birding checklist
- Commit to monitoring the same site for a minimum of 3 months
You may choose to work solo or as part of a small team, sharing monthly observations and data collection. All volunteers will receive training before beginning their assignments.
Upcoming Training Session
To get started, volunteers must attend a virtual training session:
Thursday, December 11, 7-8p
We will offer an in-person training in March 2026. Stay tuned for more details!

New to Birding?
No problem! We welcome enthusiastic beginners. In addition to attending a training session, volunteers with limited experience will be asked to complete a self-paced course: A Beginner’s Guide to Birding & Citizen Science, offered through the University of Maryland Extension.
